I believe these issues are eroding our client’s confidence and that they will damage the company’s reputation in the long run (at least in the region). I tried to approach Jeff Quiggle with the following concerns: 1. The poor quality of the work delivered at PEMEX Gas in Tabasco.2. The reckless handling of the warranty for PEMEX Gas.3. The desperation emails from the managers at PEMEX begging us to fix their bug riddled solution there.4. The complaints from the partners who are helping us fix the bugs at PEMEX gas.5. The recklessness and indifference in which we are handling the IMSS project.6. The harassment I have been subjected to since [NAME_REMOVED] departure (by colleagues and sales personnel). While things have not improved since I talked to Jeff, the harassment has clearly increased. My supervisor (Salvador Lopez Portillo) and the Project Manager (Arturo Morales) have been telling colleagues that my days are numbered. Jeff dismissed this talk as gossip, cited his friendship with Salvador, his 100% commitment to Salvador, and asked me to work out any issues directly with my supervisor (Salvador). I am embarrassed by the emails I have been forced (by Arturo Morales and Salvador Lopez Portillo) to send PEMEX. In one case the client was complaining that the application would bomb every time they entered more than 50 of characters in a text field. Arturo ordered me to tell the client that the application was designed that way, that they would have to count every character entered in the field to avoid the error, and that they would have to pay us to “enhance” the application… Needless to say, the client was not very happy, especially since the application we built for them contains no validation at all. I am not afraid of being dismissed from EMC because I built a solid reputation working for Accenture and KBR where I strived to deliver quality deliverables. I am certain that I will be able to find a job that can use my native language skills (English and Spanish), and provide a harassment free environment that will allow me to do work I can be proud of. I know that Mexico only represents a small fraction of EMC’s business, but I do think that EMC should not risk future business (especially with the uncertain macroeconomic conditions) by diluting their reputation in Mexico. Thank you and have a great day. [NAME REMOVED]
Senior ConsultantMexico City [NAME REMOVED] to Dacier_Paul, Tucci_JoeDear Sirs,I was dismissed by Salvador Lopez Portillo last month. It took me a month to send this email because I did not want to sendit while I was still in the country. There are issues that I did not share with you before because I wasconcerned about my safety. So I will share those concerns with you nowthat I am flying out of the country. I decided to share this emailwith just the both of you because I wish to remain anonymous. When I signed up to work at EMC Mexico I was really excited because Ihad always been a huge fan of EMC products and because I believed thatEMC Consulting would share the same quality principals while buildingclient deliverables.During the few months that I worked in Mexico City  I realized thatcompany rules were mere suggestions, that local laws were being brokenand that people were profiting from such corrupt and unethicalbehavior. It does not take a MENSA member to figure out that I was dismissedfrom EMC because of my previous email and that the economy had nothingto do with it. Jeff Quiggle told Maria Teresa Cuellar that my emailhad embarrassed a lot of people and as a result  I was the onlyemployee dismissed from my group.Despite having records and witnesses, HR dismissed my harassmentconcerns and lectured me on how the environment at Mexico City was nothostile  but rather "aggressive" like in any sales driven culture.  Inever worked at an environment at any level where it was acceptablefor a manager to tell his employee things such as "Jeff Wiggle's penisis your pacifier" or "You have to make up your mind. Do you like womenor men?" While discussing project issues.  Despite of providing a listof  witnesses who heard Salvador Lopez Portillo say that my days werenumbered, they were never interviewed by HR. The colleagues who werepresent when Salvador Lopez Portillo made the inappropriate remarkswere never interviewed either. Frankly it seems that HR at EMC wasjust concerned about covering up rather than finding the truth.I decided against seeking any legal action (despite of the potentialfor a settlement provided by the generous Mexican labor laws) becauseI wanted to avoid a long process and rather focus on finding anotherposition with a company I could be proud of. We spend most of ourlives at work, so I think its better to spend our time and energy(rather than trying to profit by suing corporations) doing the thingswe are passionate about. And I have always been passionate aboutdelivering quality..The quality of EMC deliverables at the Pemex Gas project and elsewhere(IMSS, SAT,etc) are mediocre. Jim Driscoll attributed the lack of anyuser input validation at Pemex to mistakes in the design.Despite of my email nothing was done to correct this issue at PEMEXGas and users are still forced to count the number of characters (asproposed by Salvador Lopez Portillo and the PM on the project) enteredin a text field to prevent the application from crashing. The poorreputation acquired by delivering mediocre deliverables is alreadycatching up with EMC Mexico. The officials at SAT are signingmultimillion dollar Documentum deals with EDS instead, and it is veryunlikely that EMC will sell anything other than licenses to Pemex(based on our poor track record and the internal audits beingperformed on Pemex officials who awarded the contract to EMC).There are quality issues at IMSS just like everywhere else where EMCand its partners have been involved. The applications our partnersdeveloped at IMSS are so poor that they can not be upgraded without aconsiderable amount of effort (thousands of hours).  Meanwhile theclient is stuck using versions of Documentum that are not evensupported to run their day to day operations and lack features thatthey need. However the quality of the deliverables at IMSS are not the  not thebiggest issue. The main issue is that EMC hired a IMSS employee towork for EMC. In Mexico public servants are not allowed to profit fromthe knowledge acquired while working for the government. And now the smoking gun.... The wife of the IMSS architect hired byEMC  is the person responsible at IMSS for making purchasing decisionsregarding EMC products and services.  There are records going back tothe hiring process where this was discussed by CMA officials.I attended several meetings along with Salvador and other team memberswithout knowing she was the wife of the architect at EMC who wasassigned by Jeff Quiggle to design the solution for IMSS. Jeff Quiggleand Salvador Lopez Portillo were fully aware of this. Salvador evenarranged for husband and wife meetings at EMC headquarters in MexicoCity, and Jeff attended dinners at their house. I met with Salvadorand other team members to discuss the ethical and legal issues raisedby assigning a former IMSS employee to be the architect of the IMSSproject and whether his participation in meetings with his wife wasappropriate.. There are a lot of records proving (emails, minutes ofmeeting, power point presentations,  etc) that prove what I am saying.I was not the only person with knowledge of this either..Three weeks later I was dismissed by Salvador and the husband-wifemeetings continue. The EMC employee and his wife have been accused at IMSS of breakingthe law for public servants and they currently under investigation.I understand that EMC needs every penny they can get,  but do youhave to throw ethics out of the window and break local laws to securecontracts?Should EMC risk future business in government bids by engaging inunethical behavior? And why to we keep giving work to the same mediocre partners?  Why notfind new ones to break the vicious circle of mediocrity? Why does the delivery manager give partners a tremendous amount ofhours for work that could be done in a fraction of that time? Why does our delivery manager cannibalize project hours and leavecrumbs to team members? How come outsiders in Mexico City do not last there? Are we too honest to work there?Thank you for my time at EMC.All the best.[NAME REMOVED]
